Vrystaat Vrynge 1st - 7th July 2019
Brighton Pride 29th July - 11th August 2019.

neXus is a creative exchange between Brighton and Bloemfontein in South Africa - introducing the talents of four visual artists from each region exploring real and imagined social, political and cultural connections.  The exhibition is co-curated by urbanflo creative with lead artist Vian Roos and the project is delivered in partnership with Brighton Pride (UK) and Vrystaat Arts Festival (South Africa).  neXus is presented as an environmental installation designed to reflect the connective motif, exchange, intersectionality and crossing cultures whilst also paying homage to the 50th anniversary of Stonewall.

The project was launched in July 2019 with a pilot exhibition at Vrystaat Arts Festival and travelled to the UK for Brighton Pride, where the work of lead artist lead artist and co-curator Vian Roos appeared alongside a multi-disciplinary collective including artists Elliss Lewin-Turner, Estabrak Al-Ansari, Dr Gil Mualem-Doron, Heather Glazzard, Lloyd van Schalkwyk, Lyrene Kühn-Botma and Teboho Mokhothu.

Numerous other international guest artists have also been involved in animating the neXus space with their own creative responses to themes using each separate part of the exhibition as a mini stage.  UK musician and Spoken Word artist Mrisi headlined an amazing pop up programme in South Africa, performing amongst contemporaries including; Sista Zai (Zambia/Australia), Johann Smith (South Africa), Frenetic Arts (Barbados), Segun Adefila (Nigeria), Jamie Graham (Tasmania), Ukhona Ntsali Mlandu (South Africa), Destro (Zambia), Arifstyle (Senegal), Tshiamo Malatji (South Africa) and Olutobi (Nigeria) to name just a few.   Many others will be joining the project as its journey continues…
